History of Las Vegas

The early settlers of Las Vegas were the Navajo and other nomadic American Indians. Rafael Rivera was the first person of European ancestry to enter the Las Vegas valley in 1821. Rivera named the valley Las Vegas. The city of Las Vegas was established in 1905. The same year, the San Pedro, LA and Salt Lake railroad arrived in Las Vegas. In 1931 construction on the Hoover Dam began and thousands of workers were brought into the city. At this time casino gambling was legalized in Las Vegas. Today Las Vegas is the fastest growing US city. Casinos and entertainment sectors are currently the major employers of Las Vegas. The city also has number of resorts and hotels which attract millions of visitors to the place as Las Vegas has a booming tourism industry.
